KaiFest Community Health Day
Our Support Coordinator Cyndy Smith ran a stand at this Health Day on 29 September, organised by Lorraine Staunton from the DHB Te Waka Hauora Maori Health Team. The purpose of the day was to provide a family/whanau friendly event where people could access relevant health information. Free smears as well as blood pressure tests were also provided. DHB, public health services and community agencies were represented and provided health information on a range of areas including bowel screening and smoke-free. There was food, entertainment and spot prizes.
The day had a good turnout of local families/whanau (Cyndy gave out a lot of windmills and balloons, as well as smoke-free chapsticks!). The Cancer Society also supported the event through gifting radio time as well as grocery vouchers for women booking in smears. These events are part of how we work collaboratively with local public and community health services.
