Over the weekend of 24–25 May, four incredible locals took to the skies for Jump for Cancer, raising vital funds to support people facing cancer here in Nelson Tasman.
On Saturday 24 May, long-time volunteers Becs Armstrong and Jan Holt suited up under perfect blue skies and took the leap. Between them, they raised a fantastic $5,556 – with Jan topping the national fundraising leaderboard for quite some time before being overtaken by our very own Summerset in the Sun residents, who are scheduled to jump on 31 July (weather permitting).

On Sunday 25 May, Kayden (12) and Cory Trusler (10) showed courage well beyond their years as they skydived for their much-loved Nans. Their heartfelt tribute touched many, raising over $4,400 to support local whānau living with cancer. Read their full story in Nelson Weekly.
It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Yvonne (Nans) on 5th July 2025. She was an incredible woman and showed such courage. We send our sincere condolences to her family.

Jump for Cancer – Summerset in the Sun Soars to the Top!
On Thursday 31 July, four brave souls from Summerset in the Sun took the leap with Skydive Abel Tasman – raising over $7,700 and landing themselves at the top of the national Jump for Cancer leaderboard!
A massive thank you to Graeme, Kevin, Emily, and Lesley for stepping up, and to the residents, staff, and friends who cheered them on and donated so generously. Summerset in the Sun has supported Jump for Cancer for many years, with different residents and staff rising to the challenge each time.
Special recognition goes to long-time volunteer Betty Van Rooyen, whose dedication behind the scenes helps make this event happen year after year. Betty is a true force for good, and we’re incredibly grateful for her ongoing commitment and community spirit.
Joining the team this year was Mark from Insite Nelson, who raised over $1,300 and added even more lift to this year’s effort.
Massive shoutout to all the Skydive Abel Tasman legends who make this possible, make our jumpers feel safe and give them an experience they will never forget – thank you.
Thanks to all who jumped, supported, and donated – Jump for Cancer 2025 has raised over $23,000 to support those affected by cancer in the Nelson Tasman region. What an incredible community effort!
