Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in New Zealand

If you would like to be emailed when the 2025 allocation becomes available (usually around October) please fill out the online form below.

Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in New Zealand. A generous bequest from Mr David Blunt has made it possible for the Cancer Society Nelson Tasman to offer skin check vouchers to the value of $100 (inc. GST) towards the cost of a skin check to Nelson Tasman region residents annually.

Please contact your local GP/Skin Specialist if you believe you are high risk or if you have the following:

  • A mole, freckle or spot that has changed in size, thickness, shape, colour or has started to bleed.
  • Lots of moles
  • A family history of melanoma
  • History of sunburn throughout life, especially during childhood
  • Skin that burns easily
  • Spend a lot of time working or playing outdoors

In Memory of David Blunt

Skin Check vouchers made possible by a bequest

The skin cancer vouchers are made possible thanks to a bequest from David Blunt. David wanted to ensure that skin checks were more accessible to everyone in his region.

David was a keen tramper, lived the majority of his life in the Nelson region and loved the high sunshine hours and the outdoor opportunities. However, David was also fully aware that that lifestyle came with an increased risk of skin cancer.

David had a close relationship with Cancer Society Nelson Tasman and he strongly believed in the work we do in our community.

Accordingly, it was his wish that Cancer Society Nelson Tasman was able to provide skin cancer check vouchers annually to give people ready access to skin cancer checks.  It was decided that 1000 vouchers would be issued per year to locals.
