Nelson turned on a perfect day for this year’s daffodil picking, and our volunteers were out in force making the most of it. After a run of less-than-ideal weather, many of our daffodil fields are still waiting to fully bloom, but we gathered what we could, ensuring plenty of bright bunches will be ready for Daffodil Day.

The effort was truly a community one. The team from Pic’s Peanut Butter headed to Ravensdown, gathering daffodils and making the day into a team bonding activity. A fantastic idea, and such a generous way to support the community. Thank you for bringing your energy and goodwill.

Over at Don Heslop’s field in Lower Moutere, a dedicated crew of 23 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got straight to work. Monique, Bill, Sandra, Paul, Lyn, Jim, Eva, Paula, Jackie, Gayle, Janet, Rosemary, Julie, Jill, Dee, Kate, Elle, Robyn, Wendy, Deb, and Emma from ANZ Aotearoa Nelson – you all made light work of the task, and we are so grateful for your time and effort.

Transporting the flowers is no small job, so a special thank you also goes to Tony and the team at Bowater Motor Group, whose vans ensured every bloom made it back ready for bunching.
And of course, we pause to remember the late Don Heslop, whose generosity and care for his daffodil field has left a lasting gift for our community. Thanks to Don, this special tradition continues each year, brightening Daffodil Day for all of us.
With the picking now complete, we’re all set for bunching tomorrow – ready for Daffodil Day this Friday. Just two more sleeps until our Street Appeal!
Thank you to everyone who made today possible. Your time, kindness, and community spirit help ensure vital support continues for people in our region affected by cancer.
