At just eight years old, Josh showed that determination, heart and a love of golf can make a real difference.
On 21 December, Josh took on The Longest Day Golf Challenge at Greenacres Golf Club, committing to play 36 holes in support of people affected by cancer in our Nelson Tasman community. Starting bright and early with a 5.45am tee-off, Josh completed two full rounds of golf, finishing with impressive scores of 92 and 94.
Josh has been playing golf since he was three and spends much of his spare time on the course, so when he heard about The Longest Day Golf Challenge, he was keen to get involved. What made the day even more meaningful was his reason for playing — Josh took on the challenge in honour of his grandad, an avid golfer who passed away from cancer 12 years ago. Although Josh never got the chance to meet him, he was proud to play in his name.
The weather added an extra layer of challenge on the day, but Josh pushed through, supported by his family and the wider Greenacres Golf Club community. By the end, he summed up the experience simply and perfectly, calling it “the best thing I’ve ever done.”
Through his efforts, Josh raised over $1,000, helping support Cancer Society Nelson Tasman to continue providing free support services for individuals and whānau facing cancer in our region.
We’re incredibly grateful to Josh, his family, and everyone who supported his fundraising. His achievement is a powerful reminder that making a difference doesn’t depend on age.
Thank you, Josh. You should be very proud.
