A Beautiful Afternoon of Connection and Celebration
What a truly special afternoon we shared at the Survivors & Carers Celebration during Relay For Life Nelson Tasman 2026.
Held as part of this year’s Relay, the celebration brought together around 150 survivors, carers, whānau, and supporters – all united by shared experiences, strength, and compassion. From the moment guests arrived, there was a real sense of warmth and connection in the room.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Debbie Cooper-Norriss from The Cooper Group, whose generous sponsorship of the afternoon tea helped make the event possible. Debbie also took the time to speak with attendees, adding a personal and meaningful touch to the occasion.
We were beautifully looked after by the incredible Nelson catering team from Rapid Relief Team NZ (RRT), who provided a truly delightful spread. Their care and attention to detail ensured the afternoon felt welcoming and special for everyone who attended.
Throughout the event, there were many touching moments. The Hands of Hope banner, filled with handprints, stood as a powerful symbol of unity and support. The presentation of sashes honoured the journeys of survivors and carers, recognising their resilience and the vital role they play within our community.
We are deeply grateful to the volunteers whose energy and generosity helped bring the afternoon to life. From setting up the space, assisting during the event, and packing down afterwards, your efforts are invaluable and never go unnoticed.
A special mention to Jan Holt and the Isel Floral Art group for the stunning floral table arrangements, they added such a thoughtful and elegant touch to the room. We also extend our thanks to Michael Tait, who courageously shared his story, leaving a lasting impression on all who were present.
Finally, a heartfelt shout-out to Marg Palmer, our long-standing Relay volunteer, and to our dedicated Supportive Care team, Cyndy, Maureen, and Tāwhaki, whose care, planning, and commitment ensured the event came together so beautifully.
To everyone who attended, shared a smile, or lent a hand – thank you. It is your presence, kindness, and support that continue to strengthen our community and remind us all that no one has to face cancer alone.
