Be SunSmart

Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Aotearoa New Zealand. Melanoma is the most serious type, and our rates are among the highest in the world. The good news is that most skin cancers are preventable by being SunSmart.

Protect Yourself from UV Radiation

Over 90% of skin cancer cases are linked to excess sun exposure. It’s important to protect your skin, especially from September to April and between 10am and 4pm, when UV levels are at their highest. Remember the SunSmart steps: Slip, Slop, Slap, and Wrap. UV protection is also important year-round when you’re at high altitudes or around reflective surfaces like snow or water.

SunSmart Schools Accreditation

We support schools to promote and maintain SunSmart practices through the SunSmart Schools Accreditation Programme. Accredited schools commit to providing shade, encouraging protective clothing and hats, and building sun safety into school policy.

We’re happy to talk to your school about SunSmart accreditation and can provide sunscreen to schools that meet specific criteria. Visit SunSmart Schools website here. To arrange a visit or enquire further, contact Michelle Hunt at (03) 539 1137 or email.
