Rehabilitation Through Gym and Exercise Programmes
At Cancer Society Nelson Tasman, we understand that rebuilding strength and fitness after cancer treatment is crucial for recovery and overall wellbeing. That’s why we’re committed to providing accessible, tailored support for people across the Nelson Tasman region who are navigating life after cancer treatment or living with cancer.
We offer a variety of gym and exercise programmes designed to help individuals regain strength, improve fitness, and enhance quality of life. These services are available for people who have completed cancer treatment or who wish to maximise their health and wellbeing while living with cancer.
Nelson/Richmond/Waimea:
We offer an 8-week gym rehabilitation programme, which includes 8 weekly sessions at a local gym with a qualified gym instructor. This includes an initial assessment and a personalised exercise plan tailored to individual needs.
Motueka:
We fund 3 one-on-one sessions at the Motueka Recreation Centre with a qualified gym instructor. These sessions help participants create a customised exercise programme. We also fund a 3-month gym membership so participants can continue their programme at their own pace.
Golden Bay:
In Golden Bay, we refer individuals for an assessment with a local physiotherapist trained in Pinc n Steel cancer rehabilitation. The physiotherapist then recommends an appropriate local exercise or gym programme. We offer funding for either a membership or a set of classes to support ongoing rehabilitation.
