Supporting a loved one through cancer?
Whether it’s a partner, family member, or friend, being a support person can be emotionally and physically challenging. Our Supporters’ Group is here to give you a place to pause, connect, and share with others who understand.
Held at our Nelson office, this group is a chance to talk openly, exchange ideas, or simply listen – all over a cuppa in a supportive and relaxed setting.
Who it’s for?
- Partners, whānau, and friends supporting someone with cancer
- Anyone who would like to connect with others in a similar role
- People looking for a supportive space to take time for themselves
There’s no pressure to talk – just come as you are.

Supporting Someone with Cancer
Anyone can be a supporter of someone with a cancer diagnosis – whether you’re a partner, relative, friend, or neighbour. The role of a supporter can be both rewarding and challenging, and it’s important to have the right information and resources to help you along the way.
Our Supportive Care team is here for you, and you’re welcome to contact us at any time for guidance, support, or just to talk. We’re here to support you in your role as a carer or support person.
Cancer Society of New Zealand also offers a wealth of information online, including practical tips, emotional guidance, and advice on navigating the cancer journey together.
