Companionship and connection during your cancer journey.

Being at home during cancer treatment or recovery can feel isolating at times. Our Volunteer Visitor Programme offers companionship for people with cancer who are mostly home-based.

This free service pairs clients with a trusted, police-vetted, well trained volunteer who visits regularly to provide social connection and gentle support—someone to chat with, go for a walk, or share a cuppa.

Our volunteers can:

  • Provide friendly companionship
  • Go for a walk or a short drive with you
  • Help with small practical tasks like returning books to the library or posting mail

Please note: Volunteers are not expected to provide personal care or cleaning services.

How it helps

Clients tell us that having someone outside of their usual circle to talk to can make a big difference:

“As someone who lives with cancer, these visits are the highlight of my week. Talking with someone who is different and not part of my normal circle of friends and family has been great. Talking about life in general and random things of interest lifts my mood and really helps me with my journey.”

Volunteers also find the connection meaningful:

“I have been visiting a cancer patient who is now in remission. He lives alone and enjoys the 1:1 company I can offer. I get a lot of satisfaction in visiting him as well, and having been a cancer sufferer myself understand what people go through.”

If you or someone you care for would benefit from regular visits, talk to our Supportive Care Team about how this programme could work for you. We’re here to support you.
